The Space Expo collection showcases the rich history and promising future of space exploration. Think of large spacecrafts, astronaut food, spacesuits and mission patches. Each object tells a unique story!
Collecting, preserving, and exhibiting
Space Expo was founded in 1990 as the visitor center for ESA ESTEC, the European Space Agency's technology center. The goal was to develop a permanent, up-to-date exhibition in collaboration with ESA. Space Expo has had an official museum status since 2016.
Our collection provides a unique insight into the past, present, and future of space exploration, with a special focus on Dutch and European contributions. We collect, preserve, and exhibit these objects.
More than 5.000 objects
Space Expo's unique collection consists of more than 5.000 objects. The focus is on European spaceflight, ESA missions, and - more specifically - the Dutch contribution to them. Additionally, we highlight astronomy, international space missions and rare artifacts.
Donations
The Wubbo Ockels collection
In 2024, Joos Ockels donated the private collection of her husband, astronaut Wubbo Ockels. A highly valuable addition to the Space Expo collection. Joos Ockels: "The spaceflight period in Wubbo’s life was intense. His collection reflects the global attention and personal experiences surrounding his space journey. It belongs in the Space Expo collection."
